The goal of this two-person group project was to design a faucet using a selected company's design language. Through random selection, we were assigned Tesla Motors.

The first step of the process was an analysis of the company's values, as well as the aesthetics and the defining features of its products.
TESLA FAUCET

THE DESIGN

After analyzing the brand and ideating through divergent thinking and sketching, a final design was agreed upon. The faucet borrows some sleek & elegant curves, and a blend of smooth and sharp edges found in Tesla cars. Additionally, we decided to integrate a touchscreen to control water flow power and temperature. This relates to Tesla's love of technology and the large touchscreen control panel that come standard in every Tesla.

A physical model was created with Kolb modelling clay fitted over a wooden silhouette of the general shape. While both my group partner and I worked on the general shape together, it was my partner who refined and smoothed the edges to achieve the fluid form, while I focused on creating a CAD model using Fusion 360 and technical drawings using Adobe Illustrator

THE INTERFACE

The faucet would have a waterproof touchscreen that would allow to adjust several settings, such as water flow power and temperature using two separate sliders. An additional feature that we thought would be important for a Tesla-branded faucet was a way to manage one's ecological footprint, as Tesla prides themselves on being ecologically friendly. The ecological footprint setting would allow the user to set a limit to their monthly water usage. After surpassing the limit, the faucet's water flow would automatically diminish until the next month or until the ecological footprint limit is edited or removed. This optional limit would force Tesla faucet users to be more ecologically conscious.
